Rikikei Neko-rin (Real name: Tsubasa Yano, Ph.D. in Agricultural Science)
Short Introduction & Affiliation
I am a plant scientist engaged in the entire process from cutting-edge research to commercialization in the field of plant science.
Working mainly in the private sector, I am something of a “jack-of-all-trades” in plant research. I possess a wide range of plant experimental skills such as aseptic sowing, callus induction, regeneration, and genome editing, as well as molecular biology analysis techniques. I excel at bridging academia and business.
I earned my Ph.D. in Agricultural Science from the Graduate School of Agriculture and Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, Miyazaki University.
Currently, I serve as R&D Manager at Inplanta Innovations Inc., handling research planning, collaborative projects, product development, sales, and contract research management—essentially “a bit of everything.”
I have participated in large-scale national projects such as NEDO and JST.
Main Achievements
- Creation of fluorescent cyclamen (genetically modified plants expressing fluorescent proteins) and other transgenic plants
- Extensive track record in plant genome editing (multiplex editing, intron-inserted Cas9, etc.)
- Experience in designing and conducting diverse experiments such as RNA-seq analysis, amplicon NGS analysis, and physical stimulation evaluation
- Business-focused projects such as the discovery, validation, and commercialization of biostimulant materials
- Writing plant science articles in both Japanese and English
Company and Personal Work Domains
- Through Company: Technology- and research-driven projects that overlap with existing business areas
- Personal: Projects outside the company’s business interests or based on hobbies and broader areas of interest (handled through ChloroQuest)
Value I Can Provide
- Plant research consulting (research planning, technical selection, experimental protocol development)
- Consulting support for genome editing, molecular biology analysis, and tissue culture techniques
- Commercialization support (market research, regulatory review, technical evaluation)
- Training (technology implementation, plant research facility operations)
- Lectures and seminars
Hobbies & Interests (Personal Activity Areas)
- Gaming (broad range of genres as a player)
- Motorsports spectating and participation (experience in racing simulator competitions)
- Flight simulators (considerable “flight hours,” including VR combat simulations)
- Vlogging and video editing
- Motorsport enthusiast (Subaru BRZ owner, Honda Rebel 250 rider)
- Stock, FX, and cryptocurrency investment; Web3 (NFT, blockchain)
- Machine learning and personal AI development
- Vtuber culture (following Storygra, Hololive, Nijisanji)
- Music and podcasts (long-time Huawei Eyewear user, commuting with Stepen)
- History and classic radio (Classic Radio Crew member)
Future Vision
I enjoy having too many perspectives (laughs), and I want to discover things that only I can find, and provide value to the world.
I aim to travel the world, meet people and companies, connect research, and continue creating new value.
Message
Even after spending so much time in the plant science field, I still find that plants are full of mysteries.
The world of plants is brimming with infinite possibilities and endless excitement.
These undiscovered potentials hold not only beauty and wonder but also the power to transform our lives and industries.
Let’s “Plant Hack” together.
